Happy Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is a time to reach out and spread the love, so we decided to show off a bit. Here at Caliber we pride ourselves on a number of things, including our ability to communicate effectively in a number of different languages. This year we decided to let our talent do the talking with chat up lines from around the world, in a number of languages including: Albanian, French, German, Afrikaans, Spanish, Italian, Greek and Portuguese. Happy Thanksgiving from Caliber

Tonight, millions of families across the USA will sit down to a feast. Many will have a turkey at the centre of the table, but the sides will range from kimchee to samosas to skillet corn bread. Whether a family has pumpkin pie or baklava for dessert, they reflect on the previous year and consider the benefits of their luck and hard work. We may start new traditions as we start new families, add dishes from our own cultures, or for us expats, adapt the holiday to fit with the cultures of our new homes, but at its heart Thanksgiving is a deeply American meal that is arguably the most important of our home-grown traditions.

In my family, Thanksgiving is a massive affair – one year we hosted 87 people, pot-luck style, and overflowed into every room in the house. I sat on the back lawn and ate from a paper plate. This year I am only cooking for 14, but that is still 6 more people than I have chairs. My American friends bring a dish that’s important to them (sweet potato pie, Mom’s cranberry sauce) and we have a bit of a hybrid meal built of everyone’s traditions. (more…)
